He saw the pictures and heard the stories on the television during the centennial of the Statue of Liberty . These were pictures and stories of immigrants, "First Americans," the heritage of the storytellers. Since 1986, Jamie and his mother have done quite a bit of research in family history. By 1994 , Jamie had traced a considerable part of his tree on paper, the document being the predecessor of this website . Jamie has drawn from many sources to compile this on-line family tree, which launched in 1996 . The sources are listed below . Jamie’s most current research Newby, Albertson, Nicholson and Charles ancestries, mostly via this source: The History of the Hunt Family by Roger D. Hunt (2011).Quarles/Charles ancestry , Ufford/De Ufford/de Ufford/d’Ufford ancestry , Surratt ancestry , Stauffer ancestry , Webb and Shaw ancestry , Skeen ancestry (and the Gillespie and Nyssen ancestries therein), his Cranford ancestry , his Morris and Shattuck ancestry , his patrilineal Johnson ancestry , his Schnepp/Schneppff/Snapp ancestry , his Fisher ancestry , a possible Italian connection (confirmed by DNA to be through is mother) through the surname Anthoni , his Coffman ancestry and the genealogy of his wife Louiseis detailed at the News & Research page . You can also learn about how to get started on your own research there . How to Navigate There are several ways to get around the tree. You can click and view the family tree and scroll and click from there if you know where you are going. Another option is by using the sitemap , which is a tree-navigation layout overview of all files in the site arranged hierarchically, but this, too, may be a challenge for those unfamiliar with the tree. A third option is using the surnames to navigate. Here, you get an alphabetical listing of all the surnames in the ancestry, and there are finder links with all of them so that you can go directly to the page of the site with that name. A final option is to use the built in search functionality on the site, where you can enter a name or date or whatever and it will list links to pages for you. Note: Most pages on the site are a bottom-up tree with the more recent people at the bottom and those further in the past at the top of the page. There are a few pages that are left-to-right trees with the left being more recent people and those further in the past being at the right. Most pages on this site are not suited for small devices since they follow a detailed tree structure (though pages like this one, Generations and You be the judge are adaptive for mobile devices). On many pages in the lower right hand corner, you will see this: ↑ This is a quick means of getting back to the top of the screen where the menu is. View family tree Back to MENU Fascinating Facts The furthest back I’ve traced | Notable Ancestors and Relatives | Royal Lines | Vikings | Wars | Other Fascinating Facts |The furthest back I’ve traced As of my latest research , the furthest my current tree traces back with certainty is to around the year 480 to Leutfrid, duke of the Alemannians . My verified direct ancestry reaches him via my ancestor Robert the Bruce . Follow in the tree to find lines to Robert the Bruce and from there follow in the tree to find William the Conqueror or follow in the tree to find lines to Charlemagne or follow in the tree to find Rollo the Viking or follow in the tree to find the famed knight William Marshal . You can also follow in the tree to find lines to Alfred the Great , who is an ancestor of Robert the Bruce, but also of Annabelle Drummond, Queen Consort of Scotland . Carloman De Landen , though it may possibly trace back over a century further through his son’s ( Pepin of Landen ) wife’s ( Saint Itta of Metz ) possible ancestry to West Roman statesman, praetorian prefect and consul Agricola , born ca. 365.gateway ancestors (those pointing to royalty), this cannot currently be substantiated. My tree possibly traces back to the 4th century (300s) to a man named Tegid ( Research Note ) . He may have had the Roman name Tacitus. Tegid was the ancestor of generations of Welsh Kings beginning with his great-grandson Cunedda . Tegid is 55 generations prior to me, making him possibly my 53rd great-grandfather. One source , if it can be trusted, would take Tegid’s ancestry back to the 1300s B.C., but that is even more speculative than Tegid himself. Historically (per this site), the following had been my earliest traced ancestors: About the year 580 to Pepin I de Landen The year 582 to St. Arnulf of Metz who is (possibly) the great-great-great-grandfather of Charlemagne , another one of my ancestors, though it is possible my tree traced back further to 577 to Gisulf I of Friuli, possible ancestor of Theodo of Bavaria possibly one of my ancestors) . gateway ancestors (those pointing to royalty), this cannot currently be substantiated. 830 with the birth of my ancestor Adard/Adalhard of Loches 846 to Rollo , a Viking who was the first ruler of the region of France that would become Normandy. 890 to Duncan of Strathearn, priest of Dule (Duncan Donnchadh, Priest Thane Dule and Earl of Caithness) , an ancestor of Duncan I (who was killed by Macbeth) and Malcolm Canmore (who killed Macbeth to avenge his father’s murder), all ancestors of Robert the Bruce . Look for this icon in the tree to follow the line to him: The year 920 to Reginar III, Count of Hainaut Adeliza of Louvain (bride of William d’Aubingy, first Earl of Arundell) has ancestry including Charlemagne (747-814), Alfred the Great (849-899) and Hugh Capet (c 940-996). However, with uncertainty of descent from gateway ancestors , this cannot currently be substantiated. The 1100s to William d’Aubingy I, Earl of Arundell .To John De Forbes b. ca. 1176 though research of my royal Scottish ancestry will reveal an older ancestor. Another line traces back to Eadnoth the Constable (a.k.a. Eadnoth the Staller), The Thane of Gloucester, b. ca. 1030-1035 in Bristol, England, though there are some questionable dates in the line going back to him . To the 1200s to the first documented member of the (de) Skene family, John de Skene , who "swore fealty to Edward I in 1297" (p. 19, Clan Skeen by A.T. "Tom" Skeen). the line going back to him .The year 1420 to my ancestor Uli Stauffer , thanks to the research of Daniel Bly. Uli Stauffer is my 15th great grandfather. This is the most substantiated "earliest ancestor" line. The year 1420 to my ancestor Uli Stauffer , thanks to the research of Daniel Bly.The year 1530 to Klaus Seibert in Germany. Research Note If old Anglo-Saxon genealogies could be verified, my tree would go back to the year 495 to the arrival of Cerdic of Wessex . However, gateway ancestorswhile this cannot currently be substantiated, I am descended from Alfred the Great . And if Viking legends could be trusted as reliable histories, then I would have my genealogy traced back to the first century. gateway ancestors (those pointing to royalty and eventually Vikings), this cannot currently be...
